The Geodome is in full production! We are harvesting Shiitake and Oyster mushrooms at the end of November that are fine quality. In contrast, the outside harvest is skimpy because of cold nights and dry winds.
We are using fruiting blankets and shade cloths to cover the logs in the dome to maintain the darker environment preferred for production. The shaded, warmer humid setting seems perfect!
Even though we have been below freezing several nights, temps in the dome seem to be running about 20 degrees warmer than outside.
Daily harvest of mixed lettuces and kale are delightful. Carrots and beets are growing nicely; and today we found the first little tomato!!!
Logs are soaked in vat of water for 24 hours before standing in the dome
